WHEELTHROWN VESSEL WITH CARBON SURFACE PATTERN

Sawdust/Pit Fired

These pieces achieve their effects from surface contact with smoldering materials in a pit or container. They're tinted by patterns of carbon or by atmospheric effects of metalic oxides. Before firing, the surfaces can be burnished or colored with slip. This is a relatively low temperature process and can be done even in a backyard barbeque.
